"One week ago, Ben Cranor of Cranor Roofing, completed a very complex replacement roofing project on my house. A 50 by 30 foot section of sloped roof, with original slate and three (3) forty year old skylights, had begun to sag plus leak on the perimeter and around the skylights. I did not want to replace the intact slate on other areas of the house, but wanted to reduce weight and change out the aged skylights. After an extensive review of our options with Ben and following his experienced counsel, he rapidly and neatly removed the old slate, removed the 3 skylights, then replaced extensive flashing around the perimeter of the roof and the new skylights. After existing underlayment was repaired and waterproof membrane/felt paper was placed and tested, a new metal roof with interlocking panels 30 feet long was installed. Considerable expertise was required around each of the skylights, with the result a seamless look and watertight. The color of the metal panels was an almost exact match of the remaining slate roofing, with a much improved appearance for roof and house. Of note, the replacement skylights for this job were made by Velux with remotely controlled sunshades in place on arrival. Ben was able to replace the old skylights with minimal disruption inside the house and only a smattering of dust collected on the plastic sheets placed apprehensively. The solar powered remote shades work beautifully, especially great with two of the skylights over 20 feet above the floor. This was an artisanal job and Ben is a roof artisan and artist. Except for help with removing the slate, placing the felt paper, and lifting the metal panels to the roof, all work was personally done by Ben. "Ben did a great job working with the insurance company and installing a quality, new cedar shake roof. He is a pleasure to work with and always makes himself available if I have any questions. He went the extra mile helping us resolve a leak that occurred after we replaced a garden window and the window contractor could not figure out the source of the problem.
